Abstract: Abstract Part VI examines the theme of doing business with Cuba. These interviews began in the Obama administration and continued throughout the days of Trump. During the Obama administration, there was an overwhelming enthusiasm for the diplomatic thaw between the two nations. American business interests clearly wanted to enter the Cuban market. Even toward the end of Obama’s presidency, there was still an optimism among the business community. Corporations continued to register trademarks at the Cuban Office of Industrial Property. Corporate giants Google and General Electric pushed for signed agreements before Trump entered office. This chapter is an interview that occurred in September 2016 with Houston attorney, Felix Chevalier. He was active in the U.S.–Cuba business scene during the Obama administration. He had just returned from a three-day trade mission to the Island. The trade mission’s goal was to reinforce the existing relationship of the City of Houston and Cuba. The city of Houston, and especially the Port of Houston, has engaged in exempt embargo exchanges for decades. This chapter also covered the topics of market assessment and entry, trade missions, the importance of developing relationships with potential partners, and the necessity of understanding the culture of Cuba.
