USACC Chair Talks Agricultural Trade with Cuba

Chapter Chapter 38 in The Cuba Interviews, 2023, pp 373-383 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the current state of U.S.–Cuba agriculture relations. I interviewed Paul Johnson, head of the United States Agriculture Coalition for Cuba (USACC). The interview covers the present state of agricultural trade between the United States and Cuba, the Trade Sanctions Reform, and Export Enhancement Act, and agriculture trade figures. What is abundantly clear in this interview is the desire of American farm groups to trade with Cuba under normal terms. The USACC was one of the first American organizations to return to Havana with its annual conference after the reopening of international borders. The conference was significant. It was attended by American farm groups and Cuba’s president and his highest-ranking officials. The message is clear from Cuba and the American farmers, who all desire an “understanding, promotion, and the fostering of relations between the U.S. and the Cuban people.” This chapter examines the current state of U.S.–Cuba agriculture relationship. I interviewed Paul Johnson, head of the United States Agriculture Coalition for Cuba (USACC).
