Abstract: Abstract In many parts of the world there has been an effort to improve employee voice in work-related issues. In Kenya, there are a number of legislations in conjunction with the Central Organization of Trade Unions COTU (K)—the largest umbrella body of Trade Unions and Trade Union Congress of Kenya (TUC-Ke)—which oversee labour-related issues in Kenya. Employee voice is a form of communication, constructive criticism that focuses on improving work-related matters that concern the employees. Despite these efforts, there are still sections of workers that are yet to enjoy the full benefits of trade unions in Kenya. The purpose of this book chapter is to explore the extent to which the trade unions in Kenya have enhanced employee voice in Kenya. In this book chapter, a content analysis will be carried out using mostly secondary sources of data (labour reports, media articles, trade union websites among others) and empirical research on the topic of trade unions and employee voice to ascertain the state of affairs of trade union activity in Kenya. The study will suggest areas of improvement to practice and policy and further research.
