Chapter 10 in Leadership and Organisational Effectiveness Post-COVID-19, 2023, pp 171-191 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Behavioural operations management is an aspect of an organisation that explains the role and impact of human behaviour in an operations architecture (Hendijani, Journal of Psychological Research, 1(3), 12–30, 2019; Moscoso and Lago, Operations Management for Executives. Realise the Full Potential of Your Organisation, McGraw Hill Education, 2017; Donohue et al., Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, 22(1), 191–202, 2020). It emphasises the significant role human beings play in operations management. Amongst all the inputs required for any operations architecture, the human being is the only one that can think, act, and decide in tandem with the influence of leadership. The chapter discourse will include how the behavioural aspect of operations management has evolved because of the impact of disruption caused by global occurrences, resultant innovative tendencies, and implications for leadership from the operations management dimension. Thus, the sections in this chapter will include the following aspects: the concept of behavioural operations (BO), components of BO, the decisive role of BO in service, manufacturing, and hybrid operations, what has changed pre- and post-global disruption regarding the behavioural aspect of operations, and implications for operational leadership, with particular reference to sub-Saharan Africa.
