Chapter 11 in Leadership and Organisational Effectiveness Post-COVID-19, 2023, pp 193-210 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Previous chapters identified leadership behaviours that can drive effectiveness in the next normal. The current chapter reviewed hidden personal factors in the leader that will enable them to enact the identified leadership behaviours. Individuals’ understanding of leadership and the associated leadership mindset were advocated as necessary for enacting positive leadership behaviour. Leaders can understand leadership as means for acquiring status, power, and authority or serving followers to be their best. Four leadership mindsets were identified: fixed/internal, fixed/external, growth/internal, and growth/external. A growth/external leadership mindset was identified as preferred to drive the effective leadership behaviours recommended for the next normal. Leadership mindsets are not hereditary but can be developed and nurtured using positive personal variables such as leaders’ values, assumptions of human nature, and others.
