Chapter 8 in Leadership and Organisational Effectiveness Post-COVID-19, 2023, pp 125-145 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The chapter traced the history of the demand for organisations to demonstrate sustainability through using the triple bottom-line measures in determining their effectiveness. It also documented the challenges organisations faced in deciding to adopt these measures. The review of past studies shows that organisations that gauge their effectiveness using the TBL measures had better results than others that did not. The critical role of leadership in driving the decision to make TBL measurement strategic and to internalise it was demonstrated. This calls for leaders to have the values and mindset that accept and enforce the TBL principle on the organisational participants. Organisations should see the TBL adoption from ethical angle, and not as legal requirement. The demand for TBL adoption is growing and is coming from multiple stakeholders, and is likely to remain the same; hence organisations must see this adoption as strategic and do something about it.
