Chapter Chapter 3 in Blockchain in the Global South, 2023, pp 57-82 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the potential roles of blockchain in facilitating entrepreneurial activities in the Global South by dismantling the current core–periphery model. It provides a detailed analysis and description of how blockchain-based financial technologies and cryptocurrencies can make it possible for entrepreneurs to connect with investors, which can facilitate small entrepreneurs’ access to low-cost loans. It also demonstrates how blockchain facilitates small firms’ access to supply chain and trade finance by providing lenders with high-quality and relevant data about potential borrowers and their activities. It discusses how blockchain can help small entrepreneurial firms in the Global South to demonstrate product quality. The chapter also addresses how entrepreneurial firms can combine blockchain with other technologies to demonstrate that they protect workers from poor labor conditions such as child labor, forced labor, and bad working conditions.
