Abstract: Abstract We first consider the inverse acoustic obstacle problem. Let k = ω ∕ c ∈ ℝ + $$k=\omega /c\in \mathbb {R}_+$$ be the wavenumber of a time harmonic wave with ω ∈ ℝ + $$\omega \in \mathbb {R}_+$$ and c ∈ ℝ + $$c\in \mathbb {R}_+$$ signifying the frequency and sound speed, respectively.
