Abstract: Abstract This introductory chapter sets the tone for the book ‘Green HRM: A Global Perspective’ by taking a cursory glance at the conceptualisation of green HRM, which is further explored in subsequent chapters touching on green HRM practices across different countries and continents. The chapter provides a historical context of green HRM to understand how the concept has evolved over time and the motivations behind green organisational practicesGreen organizational practices to promote environmental sustainabilityEnvironmental sustainability. Thereafter, the chapter provides a conceptualisation of green HRM and briefly highlights the main green HRM dimensions, including green job design and analysis, green human resource planning, green recruitment, green training and development, green reward and compensation management, green employee relations, green performance management, and green empowerment and involvement.
