Abstract:
Abstract Earlier chapters dealt with the implications of emerging technologies to top management competencies and performance. The following chapters will deal with the implications of those technologies to the organization as a whole. Those implications will include data-driven decision making, cognitive computing, and implicit innovation. Each of those issues will be dealt with independently. Data-driven decision-making features first being an omnipresent issue today. It is one of the very first tangible interventions in business conduct that data demonstrate. And it is one of the most intricate to implement. Cognitive computing relates advanced software to the nearest thing to human cognition. Issues such as prediction, attention, and perception are made a function of a certain organization-wide structures and flows of data. Implicit innovation explores the workings of implicit memories in organizations, and how an organization could possess an implicit memory, and how this implicit memory could provide a foundation for creativity and innovation. Again, and as is the situation with top management competencies, the issues at hand are novel and seldom dealt with within a context like this one. They will possibly require wider-scale intervention than that of top management as they involve the organization as a whole and the different functions conducted within that organization. Implementation of the operational dimension of these issues will also require multi-level intervention and may touch upon “soft” underlying issues as corporate culture.
