Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is a prelude to the book. The aim is to outline basic themes about political splintering associated with hardening ideologies that emerged since World War II and a way forward to help Americans cooperate again. The chapter begins with an overview of the three sections of the book. Part 1 examines America’s ideologies, Part 2 examines societal disruptions caused by what I call the Coding Revolution, and the third section describes pathways to reconciliation. The remaining part of the chapter gives a brief overview of America’s three major ideologies and the general disaffection with them. It ends by outlining a strategy for ideological reconciliation.
