Chapter 12 in Humanizing the Digital Economy, 2023, pp 239-244 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter reviews the unsettling effects of the coding revolution giving birth to digital networks, smart systems, big data, artificial intelligence, and genetic engineering. The message is that the coding revolution is altering life on many scales, from the cell to society to the earth’s ecosystems and beyond. Humanity has reached the point of becoming a creator in the real world and a creator of virtual worlds. It is conquering inner space and outer space. As humanity travels to new realities of its own making, America’s core values and story lines are undergoing stresses not easily understood but powerful, nonetheless.
