Abstract: Abstract Work-life balance is a contemporary topic that has received much attention in many social science disciplines, including management, medicine, development and education. Work-life balance (WLB) is considered the ability of an employee to meet the demands of work and nonwork life in a satisfactory manner. Despite the debates on WLB originating mainly from the US and UK, they have permeated other non-Western contexts, including sub-Saharan AfricaSub-Saharan Africa. To add on, WLB has changed the meaning attached to work and nonwork activities. Coincidentally, the organizing of work has also changed due to the influence of globalisation, technology, age cohorts and pandemics, among others. Against such a background, this chapter presents traditional and contemporary perspectives of work-life balance research and practices in KenyaKenya. It further shows how WLB is situated historically and socioculturally, gender and changing childcare/parenting practices, and the silenced voices that have influenced the WLB discourse and scholarship in Kenya. Due to the limited WLB literature from Kenya, this chapter relied on research from other non-Kenyan contexts and compared and contrasted it with the Kenyan socioeconomic context. Suggestions for research and practice are provided.
