Abstract: Abstract Without wealth and scientific advancement, a large number of inhabitants will count for nothing. Other factors undermining the importance of population are geography, mainly in winter sports, and genetics, explained in this book by the countries’ average weight and height, both decisive components in combat and strength-related sports. The impact of both population and GDP per capita is also reduced by the development of a national sport culture, which will increase mass participation independently of the number of inhabitants or wealth per capita, and offer the potential to extract a pool of talented athletes. The importance of GDP per capita and population is also reduced by the governments’ political interest to succeed in international competitions.
