Abstract: Abstract There are two types of factors that lead to countries’ success in elite sport: The natural, which are invariable, and human ones, which can be altered by human will. Given that the changes of the natural factors (geography and genetics) are not significant over time, they are the first pre-requisites for success. These natural factors will be directly followed by human ones, the first being the political and cultural interests. The latter will actually allow for the founding and funding of the principal stakeholders of a national sport system: The NSGBs, NOCs, NSFs, and sports associations, whose transparency and expertise in implementing the coordinated elite sport policies are indispensable to achieve success.
