Chapter Chapter 3 in Past and Present Migration Challenges, 2023, pp 53-72 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This study aims to present research results on the occupation of Italian emigrants in Southern Brasil and the transfer of knowledge by these emigrants in Italian colonies. In the nineteenth century, the imperial government promoted a colonisation and immigration Program whose objective was the occupation of public lands with free labour and specialised labour in order to stimulate economic development in the south of the country. The action of emigrants was decisive for the economic growth of these colonies and the study shows the forms of transfer of this knowledge, which favours the emergence of various industrial sectors that develop in this colonisation zone.
