Abstract: Abstract Suitable only for binary trees, the symmetry nodes index uses the already-known concept of symmetry nodes to assess the degree of tree imbalance by counting the number of vertices that are not symmetry vertices. The intuition of the symmetry nodes index is based on the fact that symmetry and balance are closely related concepts. In particular, more symmetric trees can be considered more balanced than non-symmetric ones.
