Chapter Chapter 28 in Tree Balance Indices, 2023, pp 369-374 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, we summarize and discuss the results presented in our book. In particular, while the main aim of our book was to give a comprehensive survey of the variety of tree balance indices available in the literature, we have also explored the history of tree balance as well as various fields of applications. We showed that some tree shape statistics thatwere introduced as tree balance indices in the literature, such as the cherry index, do not fulfill the basic requirements to be regarded as such, while other tree shape statistics so far not used as measures of tree balance indeed do (e.g., the maximum width). Moreover, we also demonstrated how existing balance indices can be used to generate new ones.
