Abstract:
Abstract This chapter outlines eight key reasons why people embark on an MBA journey. These are not necessarily mutually exclusive. At the more strategic end, the key reasons include career advancement in the same area, changing careers, and exploring entrepreneurship. At the more tactical end, the chapter lists broadening your international network and utilizing company sponsorships. The Japanese concept of Ikigai (Reason for Being) and the psychographic profiles of MBA applicants identified by GMAC are presented to provide philosophical and practical comparison. As a prospective MBA applicant, you should search inside yourself to establish what is driving your aspirations and what direction would best suit your ambitions in order to choose the best MBA program for you.
