Leo Kriese
Chapter Chapter 8 in Central Bank Digital Currency, 2023, pp 157-187 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is dedicated to the general economic implications of central bank digital currency such as the impacts on financial stability. The chapter evaluates the risks of a CBDC for bank disintermediation, either structural or cyclical. It sets out the legal context of the economic discussion on restricting the CBDC’s store-of-value-function. In addition, it illustrates and assesses possible design options to prevent risks to financial stability such as remuneration and limits.
