A chapter in Trails in Modern Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, 2023, pp 269-272 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract I got to speak with Gianni for the first time ever in the afternoon of one day in Autumn. He had been running the exercise sessions of the one-year long course on mathematical methods for physics taught by Giampaolo Cicogna. I was preparing for the exam of that course and, particularly, I was studying the part of the program on group theory. I was well aware of the elegance of the theory, yet not able to grasp how its concepts could be applied. So I met with Gianni and together we went through topics still unclear to me about representation theory and characters of finite groups. I was impressed how Gianni’s explanation was as explicit as a description of something in plain sight can be. I could appreciate his subtle ability in easily moving through the topic using a language that provided me with the vivid impression of “surgical” precision.
