Abstract: Abstract This chapter explores the multifaceted landscape of entrepreneurship in AfricaAfrica/African(s) within the global economicGlobal economic context. Against the backdrop of historical resilience and vulnerability, exacerbated by events such as the 2008 financial crisis and the recent COVID-19 pandemic, African entrepreneurshipEntrepreneurship grapples with contrasts—abundant natural resources and a youthful population coexisting with high unemployment and structural challenges. The continent's entrepreneurs navigate the challenges posed by global economic uncertainties, digital transformation, and commodity price fluctuations, demonstrating resilience through innovative solutions and adaptability. The chapter traces the historical perspective of entrepreneurship in Africa from pre-colonial vibrant trading networks to the impact of colonialism and subsequent post-independence efforts to foster local businesses. The twenty-first century witnesses a renewed focus on entrepreneurship as a catalyst for economic developmentEconomic development, accompanied by the digital revolution shaping sectors like fintech and e-commerce. The policy landscape, exemplified by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), presents both opportunities and challenges. While AfCFTA creates a vast market, entrepreneurs face hurdles related to policy implementation, infrastructure deficits, and regulatory harmonization. We also underscore the importance of government initiatives, regional agreements, and the need for addressing sector-specific needs. We provide a snapshot of diverse contributions to this book covering themes such as gender-based, faith-based, and youth entrepreneurshipYouth entrepreneurship, weaving a cohesive narrative that connects historical perspectives, contemporary challenges, and future research agendas.
