Chapter Chapter 1 in Rethink Economics and Business Models for Sustainability, 2024, pp 3-22 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The need for a systemic change, sustainability, and a great transition to a Green and Circular Economy is urgent, but what will drive the change towards a sustainable and fair planet? Global challenges and instability caused by the poor state of our planet threatening human existance, leak of raw materials as waste, global value chains, financial instability, shift of financial and political power towards Asia, and polarisation of wealth are all elements that will change our way of living and the way business operate in near future. This chapter gives an introduction to the reasons of the need for sustainability, as well as the disruption and the dramatic changes we all soon will face. This chapter introduces Sustainabile Development Goals (SDG), the Antroprocene Age and put the companies in the center of the transition. Sustainability is a new business imperative. The aspects of a new company purpose and the changing market conditions is explained. This chapter introduces the Nordics as where to look for inspiration to drive the changes.
