Abstract:
Abstract This chapter discusses the history and origins of blockchains from Bitcoin. It goes through the ideological conception of Bitcoin as an irreversible digital payment currency. It discusses the failures of previous attempts at digital currencies such as e-Gold and Bitcoin’s likely inspiration from the BitTorrent technology used in the mid-2000s to circumvent copyright laws.
