Chapter Chapter 1 in Informal Sector, Migration, and the Beginnings of Structural Transformation, 2024, pp 1-5 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Chapter 1 sets out the motivation for an examination of the role of the informal sector in the structural transformation of the Indian economy at the beginning phases of this transformation. It provides the backdrop for a discussion of changes in the output structure and occupational distribution as well as changes in the rural-to-urban, urban-to-urban, and rural-to rural migration flows. The view of the informal sector as a dynamic and productive sector is emphasised throughout the chapter.
