Chapter Chapter 2 in Cross-Border Labor Mobility, 2024, pp 41-85 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter rigorously examines immigration theories across academic disciplines, aiming to elucidate the factors driving labor migration across borders. It investigates the prevalence of coerced labor historically and its ramifications for labor-sending and host nations, alongside its global economic implications. Drawing from mainstream economics, political science, anthropology, sociology, international relations, law, and psychology, diverse theoretical frameworks are scrutinized. Moreover, the chapter synthesizes empirical evidence concerning immigration’s impacts on employment, wages, social welfare, and state policies in both origin and destination countries.
