Chapter Chapter 13 in Global Changes and Sustainable Development in Asian Emerging Market Economies: Volume 2, 2024, pp 205-218 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In Buon Ho town, Dak Lak Province, the risk of drought has grown as a result of climate change and human activity in recent years. The majority of the province is expected to experience moderate-to-severe drought and very severe drought, and compared to recent years, the size of areas at risk of severe and very severe drought will grow extremely fast. High-risk locations for drought are usually found in agricultural producing zones and places with little to no vegetation. Drought and desertification in Vietnam are becoming more and more severe and widespread, causing great damage to the economy, environment, and society. Buon Ho town in Dak Lak Province is in the South Central Region, which is the area at greatest risk of drought and desertification in Vietnam. In the dry season, prolonged high temperature weather and low precipitation lead to a lack of water for production and daily life, causing great damage to local economy and society. This study’s goal is to determine the extent of the drought in Buon Ho town in Dak Lak Province, using satellite-derived vegetation temperature drought index (TVDI) data for the years 2015, 2019, and 20202020. Based on the vegetation temperature drought index (TVDI), results have created a drought zoning map for Buon Ho town in Dak Lak Province. According to this map, in the dry seasons of 2015, 2019, and 20202020, the drought region in Buon Ho town in Dak Lak Province is rather sizable, taking up 47% of the area.
