Chapter Chapter 9 in SMEs Perspective in Africa, 2024, pp 193-210 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Evidence shows that although SMEs from the African continent face several challenges as a result of the forces of globalisation, the increased need for internationalisation has been considered as a driver of competitive advantage and international performance of SMEs (Mutalemwa, 2015). As argued by Doole and Lowe (2008), globally SMEs have used internationalisation as a growth strategy as well as a vehicle to build resilience and sustainability. International strategies which are regularly used by SMEs with notable successes inter alia include licencing, exportation, and joint venture businesses (Guili, 2018).
