Chapter 16 in The Palgrave Handbook of Sustainability in Fashion, 2024, pp 201-218 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The luxury fashion industry is aiming to reduce its negative environmental impact by producing environmentally sustainable luxury fashion products. As consumers are one of the key stakeholders in this industry, it is imperative to have an in-depth understanding of their attitudes towards and purchase intentions of these products. This chapter provides a critical literature review by synthesising extant research on environmental sustainability in the luxury fashion industry, which is currently fragmented and sparse as sustainability is usually studied from the broader context of its three pillars: environmental, social, and economic. Moreover, the chapter identifies the key factors affecting consumers’ attitudes towards and purchase intentions of environmentally sustainable luxury fashion products. Hence, it acts as a solid foundation for researchers who wish to understand the specific pillar of environmental sustainability in the luxury fashion industry further.
