Chapter Chapter 1 in Political Leadership and Agricultural Transformation, 2024, pp 1-9 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The objective of this book is to understand why cases of successful agricultural transformation are so rare in the developing world, even though its key importance is widely acknowledged. We argue that the role of leadership and its interaction with the socio-political system is pivotal and therefore must be included in the analysis of factors impacting agricultural transformation. This chapter introduces this topic and outlines the key previous research on the role of agriculture in economic development and the role of leadership in societal change.
