Organisational Competences: People Capability

Paul Turner

Chapter Chapter 9 in The Making of the Modern Organisation, 2024, pp 259-292 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract People are at the heart of business transformation—the digital revolution is a human revolution. It is people who will bring it to life in businesses. Matching internal capability to external opportunity means not only maximising the potential of new technologies but shaping the organisation’s human resources into a powerful collective endeavour. People capability is therefore an essential foundation on which competitive progression may be built since innovation, adaptability, and resilience absolutely depend on the strength in depth of the organisation’s human resources. Digital transformation is not only about implementing digital technology but about developing a strategy, in which the human element plays a key role. In practice this means a transformational leadership team; an engaged, talented workforce; and a structure adaptable and resilient in design and diverse, inclusive, open, and cooperative in culture. The key elements that make up each of these characteristics are discussed in detail in this chapter.
