CLBDM: A Framework for Enhancing Creativity in Decision Making

Hassan Qudrat-Ullah

Chapter Chapter 3 in Creativity Loops–Based Decision Making, 2024, pp 31-90 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter introduces a novel framework or methodology for enhancing creativity in decision making by applying systems thinking principles and tools, which we call CLBDM (Creativity Loops–Based Decision Making). CLBDM consists of six steps: problem identification, idea generation, idea selection, idea implementation, monitoring and evaluating results and feedback, and learning and improvement. Each step involves identifying and using feedback loops, which are circular chains of cause and effect that can either reinforce or balance the system behavior. CLBDM integrates creativity, decision making, and systems thinking coherently and effectively. The chapter explains the steps involved in CLBDM, and what outcomes or benefits they can produce. The chapter also presents various types of creativity loops that can be applied in different stages of the creative process: idea generation loop, idea evaluation loop, idea development loop, idea implementation loop, and idea monitoring and evaluating feedback loop. These loops can help to stimulate divergent and convergent thinking, provide continuous feedback, support, and improvement for the creative process, and create a culture of learning and innovation in the organization. The chapter provides a clear and comprehensive overview of our framework, CLBDM, and how it can help to solve complex problems and generate innovative ideas in any context and domain.
