Idea Selection and CLBDM

Hassan Qudrat-Ullah

Chapter Chapter 6 in Creativity Loops–Based Decision Making, 2024, pp 121-133 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Idea selection is a key step in the innovation process, but it is also complex and challenging. It requires comparing and choosing among many ideas or solutions that may have different pros and cons, as well as different impacts on the system and the stakeholders. How can we make better decisions about which ideas or solutions to select and implement? How can we ensure that our decisions match our goals and criteria, as well as the needs and expectations of the system and the stakeholders? In this chapter, we illustrate how CLBDM works for idea selection in practice by applying it to three real-world problems: traffic congestion and pollution in urban areas, maternal and child health in rural areas, and the dynamics of cause and effects of social or environmental issues. We show how CLBDM can help us understand the complexity and interrelationships of these problems, as well as generate, select, and improve ideas or solutions that can address these problems and improve their outcomes. We conclude this chapter with a summary of the main points and contributions of CLBDM.
