Chapter Chapter 2 in Ecological Economics and Finance, 2025, pp 15-22 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract On their trip to the USSR in 1988, journalists Nina and Jean Kéhayan humorously observed that, while the centrally planned Soviet economy had sent a man into space, it couldn’t keep grocery stores stocked with sausages. It’s true that, to date, all attempts to completely eliminate markets from economic and social life have failed. This observation, however, does not necessarily imply that the market economy is a natural system, nor that markets should absorb the whole of society.
