Chapter Chapter 16 in Nordic Coastal Tourism, 2024, pp 261-272 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism companies in a Nordic context, focusing on technological advancements. Following an extensive literature review, we found that the predominant theme concerning the impact of COVID-19 on tourism is the rise of technological solutions. Specifically, research has emphasized the increased use of multidimensional technologies, such as those associated with the Metaverse (AR, VR, and MR), alongside a growing focus on AI technologies. This chapter will therefore explore current and future research trends regarding Metaverse and AI technologies within the tourism sector. We will identify the most prevalent trends within each area and discuss the key findings.
