Abstract: Abstract New DealersNew Dealers judged marketsmarkets by their apparent effects but governmentgovernment officials by their announced intentions. It is little wonder, then, that when global war erupted they instinctively increased the power of those officials, in the name of peace and/or victory, of course. “Dr. New DealNew Deal,” FDRRoosevelt, Franklin D., morphed into “Dr. Win-the-War” with the same general policies augmented by new and more invasive ones.
