Chapter Chapter 6 in The Digital Paradigm Shift for a New Business DNA, 2025, pp 103-119 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The digital transformation has led to the development of Sustainable Digital Business Models (SDBMs), which prioritize environmental and social impacts. In industries like healthcare, coordinating stakeholder relationships is a challenge, often resulting in a “sustainable” oriented DBM. Despite the growing importance of SDBMs in healthcare, research on value generation, delivery, and capture for stakeholders remains limited. This chapter, by using a qualitative research design, explores Pyllola, an Italian startup offering telemedicine consultations and prescription services. Pyllola facilitates access to medical care by leveraging digital technologies, improving efficiency for both Italian citizens and foreigners in Italy. The findings highlight the significance of Pyllola’s SDBM in value creation, delivery, and capture, emphasizing its positive impact on individual and societal wellbeing. Additionally, the study discusses the importance of sustainability in digital business models and its theoretical and managerial implications.
