Chapter Chapter 2 in Transformative Entrepreneurship in the Global Landscape, 2025, pp 9-34 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the last decade, the business world has undergone a global transformation due to global disruptions on various levels. For instance, significant disturbances and other macro-environmental events define our future world and strongly affect society, the economy, business, and the natural environment. Among these disturbances, we can cite revolutionary technological advances, deteriorating natural environment, climate change, sustainability, shifting demographics, and international migration. From managerial and operational considerations, these disruptions will affect specific value chain activities such as market research, R&D, sourcing, production, marketing, distribution, etc. In pursuing new opportunities that emerged from these global trends, firms can develop new products and services (via R&D, new product development), create new markets (via internationalisation), or penetrate more deeply into existing markets. This transformation (digital, social, sustainable) represents a creative endeavour in which international business opportunities arise and are exploited. Firms, (female) entrepreneurs and institutions are coevolving toward adapting to global transformation. Additionally, policymakers in various regions are becoming more aware of the global transformation trend. This chapter will introduce the concept of transformative entrepreneurship and other related typologies. It will also address some of the main global disruptions (such as the COVID-19 pandemic, artificial intelligence and climate change), as well as the global transformation typologies.
