Chapter 18 in The Palgrave Companion to MIT Economics, 2025, pp 355-375 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Peter Temin has made seminal contributions to an astonishingly wide range of topics. This chapter describes key aspects of his intellectual journey and life, from Swarthmore undergraduate to leading economic historian. It also seeks to highlight commonalities in research across topics and describes the evolution of Peter’s style. There is a particular focus on the areas to which he has made key contributions—the Great Depression, the British Industrial Revolution and Roman economic history. The chapter also touches on the evolution of economic history at MIT, following Peter’s retirement.
