Abstract:
Abstract The activities of renewable energy (RE) sector entrepreneurs, who carry out their activities against the adverse effects of climate change, are of interest to academics and practitioners worldwide to make them effective and sustainable. Sustainable entrepreneurship activities in the RE sector aim to provide strategies and solutions to alleviate current and future generations’ economic, social, and ecological concerns. Living today while not endangering the lives of future generations requires a globally established awareness. Maximizing economic well-being, environmental resilience, and social equity are the long-term priorities of all societies. Therefore, researchers are responsible for disseminating sustainable-oriented entrepreneurial activities in the RE sector in developing countries. However, only some studies have examined entrepreneurial activities in the RE sector, especially in developing countries. The present study presents a systematic and comprehensive literature review to address this gap. The aim of this study is threefold: to examine the sustainable entrepreneurship and renewable energy sector literature in various scopes, approaches, and contexts, to address the challenges experienced by renewable energy sector entrepreneurs in developing countries, and to outline a framework for multiple factors including motivating factors for entrepreneurs, institutional supports, challenges, barriers, incentives from international development organizations and reasons for failure.
