A chapter in Energy Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, Innovation and Financing, 2025, pp 95-125 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This study aims at revealing the main characteristics of the entrepreneurs in the energy market as well as, the opportunities and challenges they enjoy. Opportunities are composed of internal and external facilities such as the digital readiness of the venture and its impact area. Additionally, some challenges impede the growth of ventures. Among those, the financial situation comes to the fore. In this study, we measure the financial sustainability of the venture by using several indicators such as own resources and equity partners. For this purpose, we exploit GALI dataset which covers detailed information about entrepreneurs and accelerators in various countries from 2013 to 2019. In the dataset, 951 ventures operate in the energy industry. There is various information about the entrepreneurs such as financial goals of the venture, profit margins, operational model, intellectual property of the venture, total revenues, wages, and funding. Moreover, there are some questions related to the founder’s characteristics including age, education, and gender. This study, therefore, will reveal the current profile of entrepreneurs in the energy sector by using those characteristics.
