The End

Chapter Chapter 6 in The Economic Decline of the West, 2025, pp 173-198 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter deals with the potential collapse of the West. Such a collapse is a possibility if its economic decline, driven by the Guns-Oil-Oligarchy nexus, deepens. Definitions of collapse are explored, and the main arguments in the literature from scholars like Spengler, Turchin, Tainter, and others are explored. From this, four primary areas of concern, or “waves,” that may characterize the potential collapse of the West are described: environmental, economic, political, and population collapses. The chapter concludes by stressing that the debate about the potential collapse of the West is not one-sided. There are not only “declinists,” who believe Western collapse is inevitable, but also “optimists.” The latter believes the West possesses the resources and adaptability to overcome challenges and avoid collapse. Some even posit that the West is stronger than ever.
