Chapter 10 in The Cryptocurrency and Digital Asset Fraud Casebook, Volume III, 2025, pp 201-226 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter begins with a discussion of fraud involving non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Techniques employed by scammers to execute NFT scams, including lazy minting, bot spamming, gallery scraping, phishing attacks, rug pulls, pump-and-dump schemes, and impersonation methods, are discussed. Next, case studies in cryptocurrency mining fraud are then analyzed. The chapter then discusses cases related to cryptocurrency multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes. The chapter concludes with a review of two-factor authentication (2FA) and SIM swap fraud.
