Chapter Chapter 3 in Emerging Economies and Financial Markets, 2025, pp 27-52 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Analyzing both quantitative—easy to measure and compare economic indicators—and subjective qualitative factors is critical for investors, multilateral lenders, and industry practitioners. Domestic and external data along with qualitative issues such as structural reform and legal and regulatory conditions are core components in the mix. Political/geopolitical risk factors drive individual country and emerging market universe fund flows. The definition of political risk has expanded from simply government stability and security to cover the ability to manage the economy and be fiscally responsible in a discipline hybrid. Geopolitics in turn has morphed in the past five years to cover supply chain integrity, sanctions bloc realignment (BRICS + ), and environmental/social/governance (ESG) dimensions to be elaborated in later sections.
