Chapter Chapter 15 in Patent Valuation, 2025, pp 537-560 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter discusses how startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can strategically use patents and highlights how they can ensure the protection of innovation, funding, and commercialization. It showcases traditional and new modes of IP monetization, such as patent tokenization on the blockchain, crowdfunding avenues, and patent-backed financing. Moreover, the chapter highlights the barriers that SMEs face, including high costs, the threat of litigation, and not having specialized knowledge, as well as proposing solutions through incubators, accelerators, and cooperative networks.
