Chapter Chapter 3 in Dynamical Systems with Applications Using MATLAB®, 2025, pp 37-69 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Most of the dynamics displayed by highly complicated nonlinear systems also appear for simple nonlinear systems. The reader is first introduced to the tent function, which is composed of two straight lines. The graphical method of iteration is introduced using this simple function since the constructions may be easily carried out with graph paper, rule, and pencil. The reader is also shown how to graph composite functions. The system can display periodicity, mixing, and sensitivity to initial conditions, the essential ingredients for chaos.
