Chapter Chapter 1 in Qatar’s Role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, 2025, pp 1-5 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces the evolving partnership between China and Qatar, particularly in the context of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The BRI, launched in 2013, is a global infrastructure and economic development initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity between China and regions including Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Qatar, though small in geographical size, plays a strategic role in this initiative due to its wealth of natural resources and pivotal geographic position. This introduction outlines the central themes of the book, which aims to dissect the implications of Qatar’s involvement in the BRI, from economic diversification to geopolitical ramifications. The chapter sets the stage for exploring the historical development of China-Qatar relations, the BRI’s vision and objectives, and Qatar’s motivations for engaging in this massive international endeavor.
