A chapter in The Geoeconomics of the International Monetary Order, 2025, pp 183-209 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter analyzes the growing importance of China in the international monetary system and examines the different strategies it is using to position its currency internationally and consolidate its place as one of the world's powers in monetary matters. To achieve this objective, three key issues are examined: the increasing use of the yuan in its international trade, the above as a positioning strategy, due to being the country with the most trade globally and using capital for such movements; the increase in its foreign investments and the promotion of a financial system parallel to that of the West, especially in multilateral alliances such as the BRICS. The methodology used in this work is a quantitative methodology, since the main macroeconomic variables of China are analyzed to make a descriptive and comparative statistical analysis.
