Chapter Chapter 11 in The Palgrave Handbook of Decolonising Entrepreneurship, 2025, pp 257-287 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the impact of women's representation in corporate leadership on female-owned businesses in Africa. Drawing on data from ten African countries, the findings reveal a positive relationship between women's presence on corporate boards and the number of female-led businesses. Women in leadership drive change, advocate for equity, and foster innovation while providing crucial mentorship to aspiring female entrepreneurs. Prioritising diversity as a strategic imperative in corporate organisations strengthens decolonisation efforts by challenging systemic inequalities and fostering inclusive business practices. By doing so, African nations can unlock the potential of women-led businesses, driving job creation and sustainable development.
