Chapter Chapter 5 in Socioeconomics, Philosophy, and Deneocoloniality, 2025, pp 81-98 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In African literary scene, the focus of most literary texts that cut across the field of colonialism and postcolonialism is on neocolonialism and decoloniality. Decades after many African nations gained independence from their colonizers, numerous works have been published on the effects of colonialism, neocolonialism, and decoloniality. The gap in knowledge that this research intends to fill is to bring the representations of deneocoloniality through the exploration of cultural, economic, and political dominance of the colonized by the colonized as represented in literary texts. To further make clear the essence of this chapter are the objectives of this research which include the exploration of the state of African nations pre- and post-colonialism and the examination of neocolonialism and decoloniality as they anchor deneocoloniality and instances of the workings of the colonized to undercut and dominate the colonized. The chapter will be anchored on Postcolonial Theory; and for methodology, it will be qualitative in nature and descriptive in approach, and will rely on the dissection and analysis of literary texts. The result of the analysis will show the complicity of the colonized in the dominance and control of their cultural and economic policies. This way, they no longer become “the other,” but equal players in the current underwhelming affairs of their nations.
